Storyline:

Well, this movie indulges in raw adult fantasies much more than any of Gautham’s previous attempts. In this one Veera plays Samar who witnesses his own father indulging in lustful acts forcing Veera on the same lines.

A few years pass by, a helpful neighbor Meenakshi enacted by Swapna Abraham who seems to have a soft corner for the poor boy from getting involved with his father’s mischievous acts, calls in the cops to rescue the boy, but his father fires on the police team and ultimately commits suicide.

Gradually, Meenakshi renames Samar as Veera everything takes a twist as Veera mistakes Meenakshi being a savior of some sort and seeks her help during his hard times and horrible nightmares. Meenakshi Amma as he prefers to call her ultimately becomes a victim of her adopted child’s sexual approach.

Veera on the other side is greedy for lust and hence searches girls and sadly no one has taught him how to make love as he finds assaulting women sexually is the closest he could come to, thanks to his horny dad.

Cast Review

The first part of the movie where Veera plays a school student is a bit rusty but as soon as you are half way the second d half you realize Veera has more to offer. No wonder the director revealed his faith for the actor during interviews.

Being a newbie, Veera has played his cards well for sure; we enjoyed his stint in the movie and his tremendous exhibition of a psychotic spell in the flick.

As for Meenakshi, we would say we would love to have a neighbor like her isn’t she so caring? It is hard to come by neighbors like that these days.

We can’t leave out the latest the Kollywood siren Sameera Reddy well she really needs some help in this movie, as her role throughout is to portray a helpless girl named .You bet she is the hottest victim you could dream of when you are a kidnapper, apparently the movie spins around her too.

Sameera won’t give up easily that is for sure she is here to stay and her on screen performance is of a similar tone as she fights back the pervert Veera on instances. As mentioned in her interview, she tries to flee from captivity by evading the killer guard dogs. We don’t have many words to describe the same scene .Bravo Sameera what a valiant effort you surely deserve a pat on your back,

Deva, who is also a real time assistant of Gautham Menon, who debuts in as ACP Vijay rescues Sukanya(Sameera) and others held captive by the lust lord Veera.

Plus Points

We won’t definitely say oh! it is so great just because it is an experimental venture and there are no songs in the movie, but we all really supportive of Gautham for taking a new experimental ride .Warning you don’t enter the theater it is not a jolly ride. It is all about the ambience and aura of the psycho’s life.

There are some shots that have been shot inside a SUV, during Sukanya’s kidnapping, a treat to watch and feel the scenario.

Gautham Menon has stayed strongly by his USP and his love for bringing in gizmos and surely enough the camera work of Manoj Paramahamsa is awesome as most of the story happens in the night and Anthony is at his usual best doing the edits. It is a technically sound movie.

It has all the possibilities to set a unique trend in Tamil Cinema.

Minus Points

Samantha’s (Ye Maaya Chesave heroine) appearance in the movie looks forced .She portrayed an inmate of the mental asylum where Veera is also sent .Wonder what is on Gautham’s mind these days he seems to have a special preference for Samantha whatever be the project he find a place for her.

We thought in certain sections of the movie there are little loopholes that take the case of Veera who lives in such a palatial building and would you believe it he still doesn’t have servants at his place?

We don’t know what Gautham Menon really wanted to bring out through this movie was it just for the shock treatment and the graphical orgy’s that he was aiming for? Gautham you surely have some trouble waiting your way as women groups will be ready in arms once they watch this one, get ready.

Verdict:

Midnight Dogs as we would call it is all about underage sex abuse and the effect it has on children. A word of caution: It is strictly not for a family to watch together. Some scenes of the movie are a bit too explicit.

We will love to encourage the fans who don’t mind indulging in urban, psycho thrillers; it is an average effort at such a genre.

Not Safe for Kids Movie, but surely your kid needs to be warned if he too experiences erotic fantasies as Veera, we hope your kid is just fine. If you are kidless parent then you will feel your best. Alright! We stop kidding now!

If you are open to cinema as an exploration of experience then go for it, else you know best.

We give it a 3/5

  1. then those who have watched the movie NN, I have some doubts… Please clarify it for me…

    1) why do veera and his illusion mom want hair of every girls he encounter??? if they are soo keen why cant they go to thirupathi or palani and collect hair … or at least barber shop??

2)will any dad ask his 8 year old son to be a part of his sex???

    3) when veera kills his so called mom meenakshi amma’s husband we can see the house on fire… but why didn’t the bloody police investigate on it??

4)veera killing girls and some girls are kept as hostiles in his home with shaved head… but my doubt is why didn’t the people who lived nearby knew about all this and why didn’t they complain to the police??

    5) from mumbai to chennai veera came by ambulance… why didn’t the ambulance person find out that veera is a psycho and complain to the police???even we can hear them say ” loose maadhiri peasuraan” but they move off gradually

    6) Is this a movie or documentary?? Why picture quality is soo bad and looks like a news reel before a movie starts in a cinema-hall…

    7) why did they show samantha in the end?? are they planning to take the second part of NN?? Trust me then for sure that would be end of gautham menon….

8)Did gautham menon write the screenplay from kilpaakum?? what did he want to convey with this movie?

KEEP ME UPDATED IF U KNOW THE ANSWER FOR AT LEAST

  2. My goodness!! I dont like reading gossips in other site except in this one!! But the person who wrote this one is VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY…………………. BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There r some stupid “jokes” in between the review & his/her personal comments r crossing the limits!!! & It’s really a SHITTY ever read!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. I have not watched it. I don’t like Gautham’s fancy on guys’ crazy attitude towards girls. I hated it in Vetayadu Vilayadu. However clearly Guatham is an able director so there is a possibility he puts it forward palatably.

  4. i just asked doubt abt the movie….  i don’t understand what gossip u found in this…  and what joke u found in this madam… have u subcribed for filmfare or ever happen to read that book… there u can find filmi bloopers… similarly in this movie this are the bloopers which i have mentioned… for that if u pass such a comments on me, i feel u have to be more careful while reading and should not hurt others feelings unless they do anything wrong… sorry if i hurt u

  5. first ban this film and dont watch it because  good technicians want to make money out of nothing spent instead of spoiling the minds of the young generations.

    1. Shankar’s Boys  a no. 1 stuppid film
    2. gauthams nadunisi Peiygal  No. 1 stupid film

People should not unnecessarily watch rubbish movies

    we hate
Maniratnam, shankar,  gautham menon  and ar rehman

    all money making stupid fellows.

  6. Well.. i am not the director of the movie, but as an viewer.. this is what i can conclude or assume.. (may be the director wanted the viewers to assume for themselves…..or mere coincidence…)

answer for your questions (my view)…here it goes,
    1) Because they are crazy…one dont have any reason for all these…(probably meenakshi amma(Samar’s illusion charater)…lost her hair in the fire accident and she was not happy seeing girls with long hair…)
    2) Because his father is a crazy..
    3) They did investigate…and the victim gave her statement (in one of the scene)…that her husband was a bad and he tortured her…. and she fought… Also she asked the lawyer to ensure Veera should not be charged on any of these.
    4) Neighbour didnt know…because he is so clever….
    5) Ambulance guys found him crazy…they moved off…because thats non of their business…and will any one want to take responsibilty of crazy person…normally one will try to stay away from such people..so they left
    6) Well…movie or documentary…what ever it is…. the Genre of this movie is about crazy guy…so thats why
    7) Just to have Viewer wonder about it…
    8) Well… Mr Vijay…. you couldnt get his message….”Sexual abuse on kids could lead into major psychological problem and thats not good!” Also additionally…for young people… need to watch around and be cautious…because you cannot trust anybody, unless you a person very closly for a very long time….

    Hope this answers your questions

To sumarize……This is one crazy movie about a crazy person…. well ofcourse the movie should be like this…….And definitely, a movie lover will appreciate the presentation from Art or technical point of view

  7. I guess if you have watched this movie….it was your personal choice.

As far as people watching this movie…. Please be aware… its certified “A” ..which means strictly Mature Audience…… People with mature mind will select and view the movie they want… just because a movie is released..you are not forced to watch it….

Tell me somthing….Did Maniratnam, Shankar, Gautham Menon or ARR… did they come to your house and dragged you to movie hall to watch their movies

    Grow up kid

  8. Sorryyyy.. .. movie is realy worst to watch.. technical point of presentation is not that much.. copy cat from itlay moviesssssssss..

    gautham down down……..

  9. Oops Sorry Vijay Sir if u felt affected by my comment! I commented on the person who wrote this review itself only!! My intention wasn’t to hurt either… Once again sorry Sir :-/

  10. Super movie because no one wears lunky in it!!!!

Lately Guatham looked like he wanted to be with woman talking. Certainly he hits home as he would be answering questions and objections on this film mainly from woman. Pathetic.

The movie has a documentary feel. Gautham’s other movies too have that tendancy but this is worse. Story telling is clear. But we have read, heard and seen films that are about these psychos so it doesn’t excite. Also Gautham didn’t balance it well; he could have balanced this harsh story with a smoother pleasant start, nice youthful scenes, handsome actors, style, cool scenes, better Thamil…..only the impossibly sexy Sameera with crisp Thamil and English dialoques was any relief. This Psycho topic is a demanding one. I think it would take a considerable time to do peripheral balancing scenes and acts to deliver quality Psycho stuff ; Guatham rushed and made an arse of himself.

  11. waste movie…. no logic… i am a die hard fan of gautham but still i cant diegst this movie… but still i hope this is not end of gautham menon but this movie was real pain to watch

  12. thanks for ur answers… but tell u one thing… sivappu rojakkal was a thriller but it was not so bad and was accepted by public… and trust me if u wana watch a thriller watch cocktail(malayalam movie)… Evem yudham sei was better comparing this though i didnt like it… intro scene of this movie was copy of scream… illusion of meenakshi amma was copied from kangulal kaidhu sei movie of bharathi raja where hero feels priyamani to be alive still after death… bipolar disorder was seen in aniyan… wat is new in this movie??just because a movie dont have a song or background score we cant say it is a gud movie and pat the director for ths fake attempt boss

  13. sivappu rojakkal was a thriller but it was not so bad and was accepted by public… and trust me if u wana watch a thriller watch cocktail(malayalam movie)… Evem yudham sei was better comparing this though i didnt like it… intro scene of this movie was copy of scream… illusion of meenakshi amma was copied from kangulal kaidhu sei movie of bharathi raja where hero feels priyamani to be alive still after death… bipolar disorder was seen in aniyan… wat is new in this movie??just because a movie dont have a song or background score we cant say it is a gud movie and pat the director for ths fake attempt boss

  14. This movie is a kind of reminder to every one… mmm Reminder to What? In this Information Era…. Every body has access to any type of information…Everybody i mean… kids to adults…. have access to all information equally….So look at the message you get out of it

Well.. Agreed… There were lot of stuff that we have seen already …or well as you said.. copied from many movies….like sivappu rojakkal…Anniyan…lot of other hollywood movies…. There is nothing new…

I just viewed this movie as this movie NN and i didnt compare with any other…..Any Psycho Movie….. based on real life cannot be more than this……So i looked at it as unique movie for its message(same old message)….which is important for people to realize
    DONT YOU GUYS AGREE????

  15. Hey Vasin…I agree with you almost every point and there are few which I dont…. I just felt that.. No Psycho movie (Pscho’s made because of sexual abuse) is different. What more do you think he need to do in balancing….?? the stuff you talking about smoother pleasant start…i guess wasnt required….

Instead of dragging things… Gautham was on to the point… infact i was quite surprised because i didnt feel uncomfortable to be seated for 2 hr and 20 mins movie (of course with a break in between).
There several other super hit movies…where sometimes in course of the movie…atleast for some 10to20 mins i would feel…”Oh come on cut the crap and get on to story….”
This movie didnt do that to me.

    Totally my point of view….

    Comments r welcome!

  16. s you r right anniya, i second it, I like ur way u delivered the reply for Mani, Shank, ARR sir ……….if it is Vasin he might have given loose talk by giving a long para reply pulling Elizabeth taylor and lungi, confusing both him and readers

  17. I admire your objectivity. Are you practising to become a Judge or Mediator sor something? Ennamo eniku intha padam sariya thonala. Surely I didn’t get bored and I didn’t get disgutsed because there is no non sense of trying to show off our lungi, distorted Thamil, forced songs…etc but I couldn’t take to it.

  18. @kaviyrasi

Our girls must know about these things. Gautham says it is based on a true story. Our girls must become strong and trained enough to deal with such horrible situations. It could happen to anyone. Why are you shying away?

  19. Sarcasm not appropriate here; she got offended by girls got stabbed repeatedly and other stuff in the movie; also she seems to believe cinema is no good and these big directors help maintaining its popularity. She does have a point. Ajith ‘Thala’num Vijay’a ‘Thalapathi’num solra alavuku mokka pasangala irkanga nambavanaga. Nija vaalkayila aabathla thavicha oru paiyana poona kaapathi irupangala ivanga? Overall Kaviyarasi is Right.

  20. they dont grow up they dont shut up ,and when they see your face they throw up….
and your mother comes around the corner and licks it up…..lol

  21. why is this flipping movie called nadunisi naaygal….it would makeno one watch this movie, weather  your mature or not….btw anniyan. and who ever agreed with his status, should think proper….coz movies not based on the climax and everything only the name whcich catches them to watch it,and i dont know why u pulled mani, shanker,ARR in this talk people….and aaanyan i agree in ur last two sentence yes they didnt but why were they evan pulled into it….theres lots of others that could be a reason to it too…so people think about it b4 talking….like this….

  23. Where did u c the grammar mistake..? It would be better if you can mention the mistakes rather than just pass your comment unnecessarily…

  24. Hey Fi…
My point about being mature is to do what one really want to do by knowing stuffs in detail…Here in this case watching a movie… Any movie in that case….read reviews, listen to peoples feed back…pick and choose a movie which you want to watch……All these you want to do…for the sake of watching a good movie…
If you want to watch a movie just like that…without any thoughts…..there is no problem…and Watching a movie just for its Title, Songs, Action etc.. are ok, i dont say thats bad…But when you see a movie and you dont like it…its totally your personal opinion.

After watching a movie …(a bad movie in your opinion).. and relating this with some other directors work is not something sensible….a mature person wont do that….

And To your point why maniratnam, shankar, ARR are pulled into this conversation… it wasnt me. For your kind information it was Kaviyarasi…who spoke about them….. i was just educating her about her ignorance…..
Probably you missed to read the start of the thread….

Well Fi ….. Dont you feel.. that you need to think twice before posting such comments?

  26. I agree with you Vasin, kaviyarasi does have a point. But one thing is sure, when someone post something out of context, some people tend to stick on to some specific irrelevant points and try to dig lot into it….
All points make right sense only at relevant context. Dont you think so?

  27. sorry if it wasnt u i read it then probabely saw the wrong person at that place and u r totaly rigth butanyways….

  28. sorry about that once more i should of told that to  kanviyarasi and i kindof thougth much to posting this comment, and i think wat i said was actually rigth seen as so,fans or others would watch movie on wat its based and the headline isnt good then it would ruwin a big part of the movie or watever it is,that was wat i was coming to btw anniyan…..
