Ramanathapuram Lok Sabha M.P. Anwar Raja, who has allied with the AIADMK faction led by chief-minister Edapadi Palanichamy (in jailbird Sasikala and Dinakaran’s absence), has said that chances of former chief-minister O. Panneerselvam taking over the reins of the State from incumbent chief-minister Edapadi Palanichamy appeared very bleak and almost ‘nil’.
Talks were reportedly on between the factions led by OPS and Palanichamy in the aftermath of of Sasikala’s nephew Dinakaran distancing himself from the ruling faction of the AIADMK. However, talks have now hit some blocks as the ruling faction is not in a mood to succumb to the demands put forward by the OPS-led faction.
OPS faction believes that Dinakaran, who faces a legal issue with regard to his attempt to bribe the Election Commission in getting the ‘Two-Leaves’ symbol allotted to the ruling faction of the AIADMK, is stage-managing a drama by keeping away and is controlled by Sasikala. As such, the faction wants Sasikala and Dinakaran’s family members to be kept/ousted permanently from AIADMK.
Speaking to newsmen, Ramanathapuram MP Raja said that there was literally no chance of OPS becoming the CM again. “We have the support of 122 MLAs and at this juncture, the question of replacing Edapadi Palanichamy doesn’t arise at all,” he said.
