Former State Minister Ma Foi Pandiarajan has said that news of Tamil superstar Rajinikanth’s proposed political entry, which was widely reported by the print and television media, had caused his faction to disband a team constituted to hold merger talks with the ruling faction of the AIADMK.
Former chief-minister O. Panneerselvam told newsmen a few days back that the team constituted to hold merger talks with EPS faction was being disbanded with immediate effect. Speaking yesterday to newsmen in Chennai , Pandiarajan said that EPS faction was shocked by the crowd which assembled at OPS’ Tiruverkadu meeting a few days back. “We would contest the upcoming local body polls on our own to prove our strength,” he asserted.
“We have been integrating cadres to face the upcoming local body polls in a brisk manner; we hope to prove our strength by contesting alone so that the whole world gets to know our actual strength.
“The committee to hold merger talks was disbanded to as to ensure that cadres are not attracted to superstar Rajinikanth who has hinted about his political entry. At present, we have 140 former MLAs, 12 incumbent MLAs and a few MPs in our faction. More than 90% of the cadres are also supporting us and we would soon prove that we are the ‘actual’ AIADMK,” Ma Foi concluded.
