The Madurai Bench of the High Court of Madras has directed office-bearers of the confederation of State Government staff members and teachers – JACTO-JIO to appear before it 0n 15th September (this Friday) to explain the on-going strike after the Court asked them not to call off the strike.
Pressing for implementation of their various demands including removal of disparities in pay, cancellation of professional tax, take-over of medical insurance scheme by the Govt., calling off contributory provident fund scheme and implementing pay hike on par with recommendations of the VII Pay Commission, the staff members and teachers have been on strike since last Thursday.
Taking up a PIL petition, the Madurai Bench of the High Court of Madras stayed the decision of the federation to strike work and asked the striking staff members and teachers to return to work at once. However, as the strike is continuing unabated, the Court said that the staff members and teachers would be booked for contempt of Court.
The Court further directed that the office-bearers of the federation including Balasubramaniam and Moses Thomas should present themselves before the Court for further interrogation on Friday.
