Deepa, niece of the deceased former Tamil Nadu chief-minister J. Jayalalithaa and who shot to limelight only after the demise of her aunt, has said that the posh Poes Garden residence of her aunt belonged to her family as it was an ancestral property. “Nobody cal hope to sell or acquire it,” she said categorically.
Deepa’s comments are to be seen in the backdrop of Tamil Nadu chief-minister Edapadi K. Palaniswami’s announcement made yesterday wherein he said that the Poes Garden residence of ‘Puratchithalaivi’ J. Jayalalithaa would be turned into a Memorial. Deepa, who floated the MGR-Amma-Deepa Peravai a few months back, has opposed the very idea of turning their property into a Memorial in memory of her aunt.
Speaking to newsmen, Deepa said “It’s our ancestral property and nobody can buy or sell it. It is indeed surprising that the chief-minister has announced that it would be turned into a Memorial. I shall move the Court against the Govt.’s decision as I won’t let go of our property. We are the righteous owners of the place and it is our duty to maintain it and to preserve my aunt’s tradition.
“I wasn’t consulted by the chief-minister before he made the announcement to turn the Poes Garden residence of my aunt into a Memorial. I had already filed a case with the Court about my claim to this property,” she said.
