Tamil Nadu’s acting Governor Vidya Sagar Rao is to visit the State today amid a scenario of political instability which has been prevailing for the past few months.
In February this year, the Edapadi K. Palaniswami-led Govt. won the trust vote on the floor of the Assembly after Rao instructed the regime to face the floor test. The regime, which ‘inserted’ by jailbird Sasikala prior to her departure to Bangalore to serve a 4-year long prison term in the assets case, has since undergone several changes and has distanced itself from jailbird Saikala, jailbird Dinakaran and others of their families.
A meeting of the ruling faction’s functionaries headed by EPS passed a resolution on Thursday stating that as Dinakaran can’t be considered as deputy general secretary as he was appointed by jailbird Saikala whose very appointment as general secretary is under scrutiny by the Election Commission. Dinakaran, on the other hand, continues to talk and function as if he was still in control of the ruling faction of the AIADMK.
OPS’ faction of the AIADMK has submitted fresh documents to the Election Commission to prove that they are the ‘real’ AIADMK. Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin has hinted that if necessary, he would move a no-confidence motion against the EPS regime. It is in this backdrop that Rao’s visit assumes significance even as MLAs belonging to the factions of AIADMK may meet him to put their points of view across.
