The ruling faction of the AIADMK headed by Edapadi Palaniswami has expressed its shock at reports which say that the Opposition DMK, which appeared ‘friendly’ towards the EPS-led regime, is planning to move a no-trust motion against the Govt. soon after Monday’s Presidential polls.
Edapadi Palaniswamy-led regime has been keeping itself away from jailbirds Saiskala and her nephew Dinakaran despite being aware of the danger of the Govt. falling. Of late, it has been displaying friendly overtures towards the DMK MLAs inside and outside the Legislative Assembly.
DMK seems to have suddenly realized that being on ‘friendly terms’ with the ruling faction of the AIADMK would only harm the party’s interest in the long term. It has now become a foregone inclusion that while the EPS and OPS-led factions of the AIADMK would vote in favour of BJP’s Presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind, MLAs/MPs supporting Dinakaran would support Congress’ Meira Kumar.
In such a scenario, the split of the ruling faction would be out in the open and the DMK may find it appropriate to move a no-trust vote on the floor of the Assembly against the EPS regime.
