An agreement under the Centre’s ‘Udaan’ project was concluded yesterday paving way for operation of air services connecting Hosur, Salem and Neyveli.
‘Udaan’ Project according significance to ‘Regional Connectivity Scheme’, was launched in April by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The project attempts to encourage more and more domestic air-travellers to take to air travel between destinations where there were no air-services in operation. This project was also intended to improve connectivity between small cities.
In the first phase of ‘Udaan’, flight services connecting Simla-Delhi, Kadapa-Hyderabad and Nanded-Hyderabad. Flight services between these airports would include air-travel not exceeding an hour or a travel of not more than 500 km; it was also intimated that the air-fare won’t go beyond Rs.2,500/- on these sectors.
An agreement was concluded between Govt. of Tamil Nadu and Union Civil Aviation Ministry at the State Secretariat yesterday under which air-travel would soon become a reality connecting Hosur, Salem and Neyveli. Centre is of the opinion that such ‘medium air-fare’ would encourage more and more people to take to travelling by air besides increasing revenue for Airports Authority of India.
