The Enforcement Directorate has filed cases of corruption against former Rajasthan chief-minister Ashok Gehlot, former Union Minister Sachin Pilot and Karthi and Ravikrishna, sons of former Union Ministers P. Chidambaram and Vayalar Ravi (respectively in that order) in the ambulance scam which rocked the previous Gehlot-led administration in the State.

108 Ambulance service was introduced during the erstwhile Gehlot regime in the State. Global tender was floated for the service but due to the condition that GRPS facility should be provided in the vans, only the Jaipur-based Chikhithsa Healthcare could take part in the tender and was obviously awarded the contract. 450 ambulance vans were introduced in 35 Districts in the State from 2010-13.

In the meantime, complaints were leveled against Chikhithsa as it was accused that the Firm submitted receipts for sum beyond contract value and the same was passed by the Govt. of Rajasthan. Former Union Health & Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad ordered for an inquiry into the scam by CAG of India.

Inquiries revealed that there were indeed gross irregularities in submission of receipts and payments made to Chikhithsa. In the meantime, Gehlot-led Congress was routed in the Assembly polls and Vasundara Raja Scindia-led BJP took over the reins of the State.

Cases of corruption have now been filed by the CBI against former chief-minister Ashok Gehlot, Chithikhsa Healthcare, and those who reportedly worked as directors of the firm – Sachin Pilot, former Union Minister, Karthi, son of former Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, Ravikrishna, son of former Union Minister Vayalar Ravi, Swetha Mangal and Dhruv Misra, former Rajasthan Health Minister.

The Enforcement Directorate has also filed cases of money fraud against the accused.
