Jackie Shroff

Soundarya Rajinikanth who is making plans to get her debut offering Kochadaiyaan kick started has locked in her cast for the movie. Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff happens to play an important role in the movie. Post Aaranya Kandam, this movie will mark his second innings in Kollywood. We caught up with Jackie to know more, here is an excerpt from the interview.

First things first, congratulations on turning 55.

Oh thank you, now don’t mention the digits next time you wish me, I will loose my fans.

Haha, we will keep that in mind the next time certainly, tell us about it, how did the celebrations go?

Well my birthday was a very quiet affair as usual I went to Ritesh and Genelia’s sangeet held before their wedding. Thereafter we flew to Chennai to discuss a project with Rajini’s team next morning. I am really blessed to have spent time with Rajinii on my birthday. It feels like meeting a brother after a long time.

Awesome, it is heartwarming to hear that. We wish we were there too. You know the very moment someone meets Rajinikanth people wonder what‘s the reason behind Rajinikanth’s stardom and his undeniable demi-god status? We are sure you too must have had a taste of the same didn’t you?

Well if I knew the secret I would be the happiest man alive. Personally if you ask me it is his simplicity. I can’t even imagine the amount of fan following he has as a matter of fact I strongly know that he’s bigger than anyone in Hollywood!

Wow wonderful.

When it comes to doing anything with Rajnikanth, one doesn’t ask questions. One just does the needful. So I immediately flew to Chennai that evening.

The professional that you are! So, you surely have great memories with Thalaivar. Could you share one with us too.

Going back in time I can’t forget he was one of the few people at my wedding in 1989. I shot for Subhash Ghai’s Uttar Dakshin in which he played my stepbrother. It was on the sets of the same movie that I and Ayesha decided to get married; I still remember we had a few good friends at my wedding. I have very fond memories of Rajini. Now that I have another chance to be directed by Soundarya I just feel it is going to be a great ride. We are a big family.

We agree totally that no one is even near such fame and recognition. Sir what do you have to say about sharing screen space with him, how did the offer come to you?

Well it goes back to my long association with him. As you know this is not the first time we are working together. Earlier we got together in Uttar Dakshin. His daughter who is directing the movie asked me if I could make a cameo appearance I agreed.

Is the movie multilingual like his past project?

I believe the film is being made in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. But even if it was in Swahili, I’d run and do it for Rajnikanth.

Hahaha.Thank you for a great time Sir. You do carry a lot of enthusiasm heading for the shoots. We are sure this charm will translate really well on screen too, our best wishes for Kochadaiyaan.
