Aamir Khan is one actor who is always known for speaking out his mind. Recently at a media event, Aamir along with his wife Kiran Rao, spoke about the gender inequality existing in Bollywood, with female actresses getting paid lesser than their male counterparts. The actor, on being questioned about the issues, was quick to reply about the Bollywood industry still living in a patriarchal society which is very much male dominated.
He further stated that, makers are still vary about, taking up women oriented subjects, although there is a change in the trend being witnessed slowly. The producers still feel that, it is the male lead actor who pulls in the crowd to the theatres and hence higher payments are justified.
Aamir’s wife Kiran Rao however begged to differ, as she mentioned about the wrong practice of Bollywood measuring work and creativity on the basis of the genders. As for herself and Aamir, Kiran stated that they always believed in equality of work and pay. Aamir’s upcoming movie ‘Dangal’ which is being produced by Kiran Rao, also highlights on the issues of equal rights for girls. The movie, which is based on the life of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat ,shows as to how the former wrestler encouraged his daughters, Geeta and Babita, into following his footsteps and taking up wrestling as their career, which otherwise is considered as a male dominated one.
