Actor Vijay’s upcoming film Velayudham would be a Deepavali bonanza for his fans. Vijay managed to shake off a string of successive failures and non-starters over the period of 3-4 years with his Kaavalan early this year. The film, remake of the Malayalam film Bodyguard, had Asin opposite him and did reasonably well at the box-office despite the problems it faced in its theatrical release in the erstwhile regime.
Vijay has almost wrapped up the mega-budget Velayudham which has been produced by Ravichandran of Ascar Films and directed by ‘Jayam’ Raja. With Genelia and Hansika as his romantic leads, Vijay is said to be playing an important super-hero kind of role in the film which features him basically as a milk-man.
Simultaneously, Vijay is also shooting for director Shankar’s Nanban, which also stars actors Jiiva and Srikkanth besides Tollywood’s Ileana. Known for his meticulous planning, Shankar has now postponed the release of Nanban for Pongal (next January).
In Velayudham, Vijay has a few Bollywood villains to contend with in the form of Sayaji Shinde, Vineeth Kumar and Abhimanyu Singh (of Raktha Charitra fame). The film is said to have some dialogues intended as a ‘veiled attack’ on the functioning of some political parties. Speaking about the film, Raja says “Vijay plays a commoner who becomes a leader due to the affection and admiration of the locals. We have also shown as to how a leader should behave; we haven’t purposely attacked any political outfit.”
