Actress Vidya Balan has carved a niche for herself donning some off-beat roles and presenting them tastefully for the family going audience. Her recent play as the plain and sober Sabrina Lal (No One Killed Jessica) and the mystical Oracle deity Makkom in Urumi have garnered positive response from fans and critics alike.
Come December, the coin goes for a toss (and lands in soiled lands) as fans will witness a darker and sensuous looking Vidya in her upcoming flick The Dirty Picture. The first look posters for Dirty Picture have twisted heads in shock, leaving some die-hard Vidya loving house-wives deceived. The movie has Vidya playing the yesteryear hot-siren Silk Smitha, with a 61 year old Naseeruddin Shah providing all the needed support as her co-actor. Silk lovers will remember her 1989 Mollywood flick Miss Pamela, a runaway B-grade hit. Now it is heard that “The Dirty Picture” has some coated references to the flick. When questioned if Vidya had any problems being tagged something-more-than glamorous after the movie releases, this is what she had to say, “Acting is my profession and I’m just playing a character which happens to be inspired from a real life story. I don’t think I would be tagged as a soft-core heroine or something. It’s my profession and I enjoy doing it.”
Yeah ! sure Vidya, we totally get the Picture.
