Comedian Vadivelu was reportedly approached by the office-bearers of the Tamil Sangam in U.S. to take part in an event to be held there. Vadivelu’s demand of Rs.25 lakh reportedly put the organizers off. Vadivelu, who has been under ‘literal boycott’ by Kollywood for almost an year now, does have no films on hand and is cooling his heels at his native place of Madurai.
At a recent event, lyricist Vairamuthu made a general appeal to Kollywood to make use of the services of Vadivelu as Tamil films shouldn’t miss out on a talented artiste. Nobody appears to have paid any heed to Vairamuthu’s request. It’s in this backdrop that Vadivelu was reportedly approached to take part as a ‘special guest’ at an event in U.S. Though Vadivelu was invited earlier for such functions, he never had time to go in the past.
Now that he is ‘completely free’, he agreed to come to US but demanded a whopping fee of Rs.25 lakhs. This shocked those who spoke to him about his participation in the event. The organizers have reportedly dropped the whole idea of inviting Vadivelu to the event at all.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, one of the organizers said “None of us want to invite Vadivelu to the event spending this much sum. We’re not in desperate need of his presence. As such, we have decided to go ahead with the event without his presence!” When contacted, Vadivelu was not available for comments.
