It appears to be the season of gangster stories in Kollywood. The latest gangster is the critically acclaimed ‘Aaranya Kandam’, which marked the Tamil debut of veteran Bollwood star Jackie Shroff. Despite the few negative criticisms dogging the film, the film is said to have been made several notches above the usual run-of-the-mill stuff that’s dished out by Kollywood.
Simbu becomes the latest actor to be taking on the ‘much-in-demand’ role of gangster in his upcoming film ‘Vettai Mannan’. The central theme of the film is said to be the emergence of a local gangster, who would commit murder just for a few thousand rupees, to an international gangster who deals only in millions of dollars.
Actor Jai plays a significant role in the film as another gangster and as Simbu’s close friend. When Jai gets killed by the rival gang, Simbu gets in to the vengeful mode to eliminate the rivals. This revenge attempt lands Simbu in bigger racket of gangsters and transforms him into an ‘international’ gangster from a local culprit.
Nelson, who has directed some reality music shows for television, debuts as director with ‘Vettai Mannan’. The script is set in such a manner that the first half of the story takes place in Chennai while the second half moves to Brazil. The crew is likely to shoot in Brazil for 30 days. Tollywood beauty Deeksha Seth, the surprise package, would be pairing up opposite Simbu and could well be debuting in Tamil with this film.
Seeking to prove his talent in divergent roles, the actor is playing a tough cop in the film ‘Osthi‘ which is being made simultaneously by director Dharani.
