Director Shankar has been known as a ‘perfectionist’ in Kollywood. The director, who has had many super-hit films to his credit, does have the habit of planning thins in a methodical manner so that nothing goes haywire once he starts his shooting schedules. Known for his films which are full of grandeur and cinematic excellence, he does only one film at a time and doesn’t think or speak of another film till the present one is completed.
Reports, however, say that Shankar has already started thinking about his next project even before wrapping up his current project ‘Nanban’. The film, a Tamil remake of the Bollywood super-hit film ‘3 Idiots’, stars Vijay, Jiiva, Srikanth, Ileana, Anuya and S.J. Suriyah in lead roles. The film Shankar has in mind as his next film could well turn out to be a sequel to his super-duper hit Kamal-starrer ‘Indian’, it is learnt.
Strangely enough, the recent non-violent struggle by means of fasting by Gandhian Anna Hazare reminded many of the ‘Indian’ grandman (played by Kamal with aplomb) in Shankar’s earlier film ‘Indian’. Shankar’s is said to be getting strong advices from his friends to make a sequel to his own ‘Indian’ which released more than a decade back. Shankar is said to have assured them that he would think about it after wrapping up his ‘Nanban’ and watching the ‘first copy’ of the film.
It might be worth mentioning here that during one of his recent interviews, Kamal Haasan was asked whether he would be acting in a sequel to his super-hit film ‘Nayagan’, which released in the late eighties and was directed by Maniratnam. Kamal replied that he wasn’t sure about the sequel to ‘Nayagan’ but said that the possibility of him starring in a sequel to ‘Indian’ can’t be ruled out.
Let’s wait and see!
