If rumours doing rounds in Kollywood are anything to go by, director Shankar might well end up making sequel to his highly successful Indianwhich released in the nineties and starred Kamal Haasan, Sukanya, Manisha Koilrala and Urmla Matondkar in lead roles. The film narrated the social anger of a 70-plus old man who fights tooth and nail against the prevalent system to root out corruption at all levels.
Fresh from the success of his latest film Mankatha, Ajith has already started work on his upcoming film Billa-2, a prequel to his successful Billa which released in 2007. Shankar has hinted about the sequel to Indianand his determination to make a successful film for producer AM. Rathnam. The duo’s earlier film Boys wasn’t as successful as Shankar and Ratnam would have expected.
Industry sources say that the re-union of Shankar and Ratnam might culminate in the sequel to Indhiyan. Ratnam is said to be very particular to make a sequel to Indianespecially in the backdrop of the successful struggle the 70-plus Anna Hazare launched against the Union government at Delhi’s Ramlila grounds a few weeks back. It is said that Ratnam strongly feels that the lead character of Indhiyan, also a 70-plus old man, could be shown like a crusader against corruption like Anna Hazare.
When contacted, Ratnam didn’t deny the news and said that talks are still going on with Shankar at present but refused to confirm anything at this stage. Indianfetched Kamal Haasan national award for ‘best actor’ but the question which now remains is whether or not Ajith shall be able to pull off such a heavy role!
