Oomai Vizhigal, the path-breaking Tamil film made wholly by Film Institute students, is likely to be remade. The film, which released in the mid-eighties, was a thriller produced by Aabaa Vanan and directed by R. Aravindaraj. In order to prop up the film institute students’ appetite to make a record-breaking film, the then leading stars including Vijayakanth, Karthik, Ravichandran, Sasikala and Saritha played lead roles in the film.
The remake version is likely to star Sarath Kumar in the role played by Vijayakanth. The film in which Vijaaykanth played a cop was a curtain-raiser to the many films that Vijaykanth later played the cop’s role, which is one of his most-donned roles in his career. The 1986 film was a super-duper hit and was hailed by critics and movie-lovers for the various technical aspects it carried.
Director Vincent Selva is all set to direct the remake version. Readers might recall that Selva has directed films like the Murali-starrer Vattakkudi Iraniyan and the Vijay-starrer Youth. The remake Sarath Kumar could just be the blessing in disguise that Sarath had been hoping for as his film career had been going haywire in the last few years.
His solitary project on hand is Vidiyal opposite the out-of-favour Sneha. As such, Sarath must be banking heavily on the remake of Oomai Vizhigal, a horror film by nature, to put him back in the reckoning in Kollywood. Other actors, actresses and the technicians to be associated with the remake version would be announced later, it is reported.
