Bollywood’s quintessential ‘item girl’ Mallika Sherawat has said in an interview that during a chance meeting with the U.S. President Barak Obama, the latter appreciated her work. Mallika, the Bollywood bombshell, first graced the Tamil screen with Maniratnam’s Guru a few years back and then followed it up with a good role in Kamal Haasan’s magnum opus Dasavathaaram which also included a sizzling dance number.
After four long years, she is back in Tamil and has performed the much-awaited ‘item number’ for actor Simbu’s upcoming film Osthi, a remake of the Bollywod hit film Dabbang. While the Hindi version had Malaika Arora Khan performing the sizzling ‘item’ number Munni Badnaam Hui…., the Tamil version has Mallika, who oozes glamour from her head to toe.
Mallika, who has starred in a few Hollywood films as well, has rubbed shoulders with the likes of Johnny Depp and Mexican actress Salma Hayek, says that she’d never forget Maniratnam who cast her in Guru and the dance number she did in Dasavathaaram, as those songs endeared her to Tamil viewers. She describes herself as an ardent fan of both ‘Bollywood and Kollywood’.
“I was deeply impressed by Simbu’s dancing capabilities while shooting for the song in Osthi. The song has been picturized differently from that of the Hindi version and I’m sure audience would love me movements in the film. I’m happy to be part of the Tamil film industry which has living legends such as Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth. I’m getting kudos for my role in my latest Hollywood film Politics of Love.
“I met President Obama recently and won’t forget the kind of appreciation he showered on me. I was surprised when he said he has seen my performances,” concludes the Osthi girl.
