Prabhudeva to remake Rajini’s Baasha in Hindi?

Reports say that superstar Rajinikanth’s all-time mega-hit film Baasha might soon be remade in Hindi starring Ajay Devgn in the lead role. Released in the mid-nineties, Baasha is one of the highly successful ventures by Rajini and was a trend-setter for the many films which were made after the film’s release showing the hero primarily as an antagonist.

With successive hits under his belt, Prabhudeva has become a filmmaker of note in Bollywood. He is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Rowdy Rathore (remake of the Tamil hit Siruthai) which stars Akshay Kumar in the lead. It is reported that Prabhudeva’s next would be having a script which would be similar in content to that of Rajini’s Baasha.

Baasha enjoys an ‘iconic status’ in Tamil films and whosoever wants to make a film based on it would have to tread cautiously. Ajay Devgan starred in last year’s Singham which was the Hindi version of the Tamil super-hit film Singam. Soon after Rowdy Rathore hits the screens in a few weeks’ time from now, Prabhudeva would star work on the as-yet-untitled film starring Ajay Devgan in the lead.

Though the proposed film won’t be a direct ‘remake’ of Baasha, it would borrow salient features of the film’s script,
it is said. When contacted, Prabhudeva neither denied nor confirmed those rumours but said that his next film might have Ajay playing the lead.
