Comedian Vadivelu might be returning to big-screen today after a long gap of 11 months in actor Prashanth’s Mambattiyan which releases today in the State and elsewhere. The film has been produced and directed by Thiagarajan, father of Prashanth. Meera Jasmine has been paired opposite Prashanth in the film, which has music by Thaman. Prakashraj plays a significant role in the film.
Vadivelu has been on an ‘unofficial’ boycott by the film industry ever since the changed political scenario in the State since May this year. Mambattiyan, which Vadivelu signed up last year, is only his first release in the past 11 months. Problems are far from over as the police are gearing up to enquire Vadivelu about the suicide of his former manager Velusamy. The police interrogation is a result of a petition filed with the Chennai High Court by Velusamy’s wife who feels that there is something ‘foul’ about the suicide.
In her petition, Velusamy’s wife Pandeeswari of Tirumangalam, Madurai has stated that “My husband worked as Vadivelu’s manager for many years. He committed suicide on 04.02.2009; the Vadapalani police have registered a case of suspicion about the suicide. I have reasons to believe that Vadivelu might have murdered my husband and shown it as a case of suicide.
“Vadivelu was close to the previous DMK regime and therefore I couldn’t complain against him earlier. I have two sons to bring up; I had already submitted a petition on 19.8.2011 seeking action to enquire into the ‘suicide’ of my husband. I request you to kindly set up a special team to look into the case,” the petition concluded.
The case came up for hearing in the Court of Mr. Justice Paul Vasanthakumar who sent notices to the DGP of Police, Tamil Nadu to look into the matter soon and file a reply within a week’s time.
