Actress Nayantara has said that she doesn’t want to star in the Tamil remake of the Bollywood super-hit film The Dirty Picture (TDP). The film, which is directed by Milan Luthria, was about the life and times of Silk Smitha, the late ‘item girl’ of Tamil cinema, who ruled the roost as a successful actress for one-and-half decades till she committed suiciden in the mid-nineties. The reasons behind Smitha’s suicide remain a mystery till date.
TDP was not only a super-hit film but it was also the film which fetched for its Palakkad-born heroine Vidya Balan her first-ever national award for ‘best actress’. She had also won the Filmfare Award for her role in the same film. The film is now to be remade in Tamil. Anushka’s name did the rounds for a few days as the likely heroine to reprise Vidya’s role in the original version.
It was then reported that ‘comeback’ girl Nayanthara might be roped in to play ‘Silk’ Smitha in the Tamil version. However, when queried about it, Nayan denied that she was approached by any producer in the first place. She then went on to add that even if she is approached for the said role, she might not take up the offer as she is not at all interested in the character.
The Dirty Picture has taken Vidya’s popularity and star-power to an all time high in Bollywood and has earned her the tag of an actress who is capable of doing all kinds of roles. However, Nayan seems to have different ideas. Nayan’s unwillingness to take on Vidya’s role in the Tamil version is attributed to her doing Goddess Sita’s role in last year’s Telugu super-hit film Sri Rama Rajyam.
Apparently, Nayanthara doesn’t want to earn fame through an ultra-sexy role.
