Kollywood is abuzz with rumours that ace director Maniratnam is all set to launch the pretty Akshara Haasan, younger daughter of ‘Ulagayanagan’ Kamal Haasan, in a new film he is all set to direct. It is further said that the script of the film would be based on the burning issue of increasing incidents of attack by the personnel belonging to the Sri Lankan Navy on the hapless and innocent Indian (read: Tamil) fishermen.
The film might also witness the launch of Gautham, son of actor Karthik. Readers might recall that way back in the late-eighties, it was Maniratnam who made films like ‘Mouna Raagam’ and ‘Agni Natchathiram’ which catapulted Karthick to stardom. Karthick also starred in Maniratnam’s latest Tamil film ‘Raavanan’ which released last year, albeit in a miniscule role.
Akshara has been staying in Mumbai for the past many years with mother Sarika, a national-award winning actress. Akshara, unlike Shruti, had always held that she only wanted to work from behind the camera and not in front of the camera. She had also worked as an assistant director in the Hindi film ‘Society’ directed by Rahul Telgi. The beauty with brains that Akshara is, she appears to have been convinced that Mani’s film would be an ideal launch-pad for her.
Mani has reportedly spoken to both Kamal and Sarika and got their consent to launch Akshara in his film opposite Karthick’s son. Akshara, a trained dancer in various dance forms, has also directed a few ad films and dreams to direct Appa Kamal one day. She is also aware that creating a ‘character’ to feed Kamal’s satiation for acting would be a ‘tough assignment’.
Though Sarika wanted to launch her daughter in Bollywood, it appears that Kamal wanted the launch to occur through Maniratnam!
