Kamal to play the lead role in remake of Traffic

Reports emanating from Kollywood point out that ‘Ulaganayagan’ Kamal Haasan is in the reckoning to play the lead role in the Tamil remake of the Malayalam super-hit film ‘Traffic’.

Directed by Rajesh Pillai, ‘Traffic’ starred Srinivasan and Rahman in lead roles. The film, besides courting huge success at the box-office, was also appreciated by critics and the print and television media for its treatment. When Kamal recently watched the film, he said he liked it very much and would be happy if a Tamil remake attempt on the film is made.

Rajesh too felt it would be nice to attempt the remake in Tamil and is said to have asked whether Kamal was willing to play one of the three lead roles in the film. Though it’s a 3-hero subject, Kamal is said to have verbally agreed to star in the remake version.

Though Kamal has committed to do ‘Viswaroopam’ under Selvaraghavan’s direction, he is planning to first complete the Tamil remake of ‘Traffic’ as Selva’s film is likely to get delayed as completing the visa formalities with the American Embassy may take a few months.

  1. Kamalji,

It’s a good film. You can take the plot and localize to Tamil audience. Please use the same director, Ranjith who is one of the promising talents of Indian filmmaking.

I think you can wrap up the shoot withing 2-4 weeks and release it in before Independence Day (as the film content talks about compassion to fellow beings. “Cocktail” another film by Arun Kumar is also a good content though bit as inspired as Traffic.

Thank you for taking good cinema to all over India!
