Reports say that the makers of Ninaithalae Inikkum are planning to re-release the film in the coming weeks. The K. Balachander-directed film, which had a huge star-cast in Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Jayaprada, Geetha, Sarath Babu and others, released in 1979 and went on to become a super-duper hit. It was also the debut film of ace comedian S.Ve. Shekhar.
It released at a time when Kamal and Rajini starred together in many films. After early eighties, though, the two decided to chart their own separate careers and haven’t starred together exept for ‘guest roles’ in Tamil and Hindi films. Rajini grew from strength to strength to become the unassailable superstar of Kollywood while
Kamal Haasan has managed to hold his own despite the onslaught of the younger brigade of actors. With music by ‘melody king’ M.S. Viswanathan comprising many hit songs and enchanting performances by the lead actors, the film is a visual treat. The producers of the film are said to be toying with the idea of re-releasing the film, apparently buoyed by the response of the fans to the re-release of Karnan starring the late Sivaji Ganesan.
Raj TV, which has the release rights of Ninaithalae Inikkum, is trying to re-release the film as it has Rajini and Kamal playing friends. Raj TV presumes that at a time when the talk of the two coming together for a film is getting louder, the film would be met with a positive response from the fans of both the stars.
