Though no official word has been out so far, it now appears certain for Hollywood’s Jackie Chan to be making his debut in a Tamil film. It is reported that the film, which might be produced by Ravichandran of Ascar Films, might star our own ‘Ulaganayagan’ Kamal Haasan and Jackie in parallel roles and could turn out to be a Tamil-English bilingual affair.
Kamal is presently making, directing and starring in the 55-crore Viswaroopam which is likely to release in the second half of 2012. After completing the film, Kamal is likely to join Jackie Chan for an English-Tamil bilingual besides directing the film. Moreover, Kamal Haasan is likely to indulge in some pulsating action sequences which he is planning to do without the use of any ‘body double’.
The film is likely to release as ‘original’ English film in U.S., U.K. and major European countries. For the benefit of Tamil audiences, Jackie Chan would be preparing hard and dubbing in his own voice for the Tamil version. The screenplay would be set up in such a way as to enable Jackie Chan to have fewer but effective dialogues.
The film has been tentatively titled Thalaivan Irukkindraan and would be one of Tamil cinema’s big-budget films like Rajini’s Enthiran. By a rough estimate, the money to be paid to Jacike Chan to star in this Tamil-English bilingual is rumoured to be in the region of Rs.30-35 crore.
Ravichandran, when contacted, reveals that “This would be a unique film bringing together two great stars in Kamal and Jackie. An official announcement about the mega-film would be made once Kamal is free after complting his Viswaroopam.” Sources close to him add that technicians and other actors/actresses would be finalized later.
