Actress Namitha has categorically stated that contrary to reports appearing in some sections of the press about her ‘quitting’ the film industry, she is very much part and parcel of the entertainment industry. She has denied reports that she has started concentrating on real estate business.
Namitha hails from the textile town of Surat in Gujarat. She debuted in Tamil films in the year 2002 as Vijayakanth’s heroine with the film Engal Anna which was a moderate hit. She then paired up opposite senior heroes like Arjun, Parthiban and Sartah Kumar and also paired up opposite the younger lot such as Ajith, Vijay, Srikanth, ‘Jithan’ Ramesh and Jeevan. She got busy in all the four South Indian language films.
Her last film in Tamil was the forgettable Ilaignan, which had lyricist Paa Vijay as the hero and had dialogues by Kalaignar. The film, which released last year, failed miserably at the box-office. It was then reported in the local press that Namitha had started her own construction firm in Mumbai and that she had quit films for good.
When asked about this, Namitha conceded that it was true that she had started her own construction firm in Mumbai but said that she hadn’t yet call it quits from films. “I own the construction firm but run it through my employees. I rested in Mumbai for some time to exercise rigorously to reduce some flab around my waist. I have again made Chennai my home.
“At present, I am starring in a film directed by Harirajan and another film titled Odi Vilaiyadu Paapa directed by N.K. Viswanathan. I have also committed to star in a Telugu film in which I’d be clad in sarees throughout the film. I shall continue to star in movies provided I am offered good scripts,” concludes Namitha.
