A regional television channel named Thendral TV was floated by Union Minister Jagathratchagan during the erstwhile DMK regime in the State. Soon after the Minister closed the daily he was running, the office used for the newspaper’s release was converted into the office from where Thendral TV was broadcast.
A test-relay of the channel was going on for many months but the channel never beame full-fledged in its operations for reasons best known to its ‘owner’. Reports emanating from Kollywood now claim that the channel is likely to be acquired by the duo of Hansraj Saxena and Aiyappan who have recently floated Sacs Pictures.
Hansraj was an intergral part of the Sun Network and was running the Sun Pictures, which seemed omnipresent during the erstwhile regime in the State, acquiring the rights of all major films at will. After the change of guard in the State, Saxena faced many criminal charges and was jailed. His employers not only ditched him but also sacked him from his job, rubbing salt on the wound.
Instead of retreating to his native State, Saxena vowed to continue to live in Chennai and prove his worth. His move in acquiring Thendral TV, which is temporarily run by Chezhiyan, has come as a bolt from the blue. It now turns out that Saxena-Aiyappan duo was already planning to float a channel and was only too willing to acquire a channel which was already in operation.
A formal announcement in this regard would be made soon, it is reported.
