Actor Dhanush, son-in-law of superstar Rajinikanth, is a damn good actor in his own right and doesn’t need to sell any of his films in the pretext that the films possess titles of Rajini’s past hits. Dhanush’s earlier hit films ‘Padikkadhavan’ and ‘Polladhavan’ had similar titles to Raijni’s hit films but the storylines of both the films were vastly different from Rajni’s films.
Dhanush’s upcoming film ‘Maappillai’, though, would be a remake of Rajini’s hit film of the same name which released in the late eighties and went on to become a super-hit film. Dhanush essays Rajini’s role while newcomer Hansika plays the role played by Amala in the original. The famous mother-in-law’s character in the original version, played with aplomb by the late Srividya, has been played by Bollywood’s Manisha Koirala.
‘Maestro’ Ilayaraja’s musical numbers played a great part in the success of Rajini’s ‘Maapillai’. One of the songs in the film, ‘Ennoda Raasi Nalla Raasi…’, sung by the late ‘Malaysia’ Vasudevan, is being used in the Dhanush-starrer as a re-mix version,, an idea which is reportedly the brainchild of music director Mani Sharma and Dhanush.
Sources close the Unit say that the remix song is likely to irk Rajni’s legion of fans as the original song has been ‘massacred’ in the form of re-mix. The film’s director Suraaj, who also directed Dhanush in ‘Padikkadhavan’, and Mani Sharma would be drawing flak as and when the film releases, the sources predict on condition of ‘strict’ anonymity!
