June 2nd is a special day for Kollywood. Two long serving candidates, champions in their own right, share the day of celebration with their fans and dear ones. It’s sheer coincidence that Isaignani Ilayaraja and South India’s top director Mani Ratnam have their birthday on the same day.
Mani Ratnam born on June 2, 1956 in Madurai, Tamil Nadu bagged his first National award in Mouna Ragam. It was Ilayaraja, who added beauty to the scenes with his titillating songs and background scores. The duo created magic again with Anjali again winning National honors. Scoring individual hits later on Mani had Roja, Bombay, Iruvar and many more to his credit. Meanwhile Ilayaraja (born June 2nd 1943), introduced his son Yuvan Shankar Raja to the musical industry along with Karthik Raja and Bhavadharini. Moving on, Director Mani Ratnam has Kadal coming up this year, teaming up with his protégé AR Rahman once again. Ilayaraja on the other hand has bagged Gautham Menon’s big release Nee Thane En Ponvasantham (NEP). On his birthday his son Yuvan Shankar Raja, Karthik Raja and Bhavadharini will launch a website, dedicated to the composer’s abounding contribution for Kollywood. Director Gautham Menon too has released a track from NEP titled Saindhu Saindhu, wishing Ilayaraja on his birthday. Our hearty wishes to both Mani and Ilayaraja, on their birthday.
