Actress Anuya is presently starring in director Shankar’s upcoming film ‘Nanban’. The actress debuted in Tamil films through the successful ‘Siva Manasula Sakthi’ more than a couple of years back. The film, directed by Rajesh and pitting her opposite Jiiva, was an instant hit with the masses. Yuvan Shankar’s music, Rajesh’s script and Santhanam’s comedy were cited as the reasons for the film’s success.
Anuya followed it up with ‘Madurai Sambavam’ opposite Harikumar. She had indulged in some ‘skin show’ in the film which was an average grosser at the box-office. She then did ‘Nagaram’ opposite Sundar C which was also a reasonable success but nowhere close to being called ‘super-hit’. The actress then underwent a lull in her career before landing up the role in ‘Nanban’.
As readers are aware, ‘Nanban’ is the Tamil remake of the Bollywood hit film ‘3 Idiots’ and stars Vijay, Jiiva, Srikanth in lead roles besides Tollywood’s Ileana. Anuya is said to be playing the role of sister of Ileana, who is paired opposite Vijay. For any upcoming heroine, playing sister on-screen is a big challenge as the danger of getting typecast in similar roles is always there.
The actress took up this role for a variety of reasons: first, she wanted to be part of Shankar’s film at any cost; secondly, the fee she was offered was more than she could have bargained for. Finally, instead of sitting idle at home waiting for film offers she thought it better to keep her engaged by starring in a film which had Vijay as the hero. For new film offers, she reportedly demands a fee of Rs.30 lakhs.
She reveals that she has refused many films which had ‘sister’ roles. “I made an exception in the case of Nanban as it’s a Vijay-starrer. Hereinafter, I shall only be playing the heroine’s roles and nothing else. I have starred in some good films in the past; what’s wrong in demanding the amount that I think I actually deserve?” queries Anuya.
