Actor Ajith’s upcoming film Mankatha would also be his landmark 50th film. As such, expectations are quite high from his fans, who haven’t felt alienated despite the star asking them to wind up and disband all the fans’ clubs operating in his name in the State. Early this month, Ajith issued a written statement asking the fans to disband the fan clubs with immediate effect.
‘Mankatha’ has Trisha and Lakshmi Rai opposite Ajith besides starring ‘action King’ Arjun, Andrea Jeremiah, Anjali, Jayaprakash and Bollywood’s Kainaat Arora as the ‘item girl’. The film has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja and has been directed by Venkatprabhu, who has had a successful stint as director with films like ‘Chennai 6000 028’, ‘Saroja’ and ‘Goa’ under his belt.
The shooting of the film is likely to be wrapped up by the middle of this week. The director reveals that the graphic works he had in mind and the post-production work would take up a month or so, which meant that the film could only be released in the first-half of July.
The script of the film is said to revolve around a Mafia gang gambling during the cricket season. Venkat, though, is at pains to insist that the film is not merely about ‘betting on cricket’ alone and has much more to offer. Ajith plays the kingpin behind the gambling, though there are rumours that his role in the film is that of a police officer who functions in decoy. Arjun plays a CBI officer, while Trisha is the daughter of a gangster played by Jayaprakash.
