Actors Vijay and Ajith are mentioned in the same breath as the legendary pairs of MGR-Sivaji Ganesan and Rajini-Kamal when it comes to enjoying mass support and delivering hit films. Both the stars, whose acting styles are very different from each other, have considerable fan following which more often than not results in huge ‘openings’ at theatres whenever their films are released.
They have been consciously avoiding their films clashing with each other at the box-office as it might cause ‘disturbance’ between their fan groups. However, the much-awaited box-office clash between the two stars appears an inevitable eventuality now. Trade circles say that it’s likely that Ajith’s ‘Mankatha’ and Vijay’s ‘Velayudham’ might be released in the month of August.
For starters, ‘Mankatha’ would be Ajith’s landmark 50th film and has a huge star-cast. Produced by Dayanidhi Azhagiri, the film stars Trisha, Laxmi Rai, Anjali, Andrea Jermaiah, Kainaat Arora besides ‘action king’ Arjun in a ‘special’ role. The film is being directed by Venkatprabhu. On the contrary, Vijay’s ‘Velayudham’ is directed by ‘Jeyam’ Raja and produced by Ascar Ravichandran. Genelia and Hansika are the heroines while the diminutive Saranya Mohan plays Vijay’s sister in the film.
The shooting of both the films have been wrapped up and the post-production work is underway. ‘Velayudham’ was earlier planned to be released on 22nd June to coincide with Vijay’s birthday; similarly, ‘Mankatha’ was also aimed to release on 1st May on the eve of Ajith’s birthday. Both the films got delayed due to various factors and are heading for a ‘summit clash’ in August.
It’s likely that the two films would be released within a fortnight’s gap so as to avert ‘possible’ clash of the fans of these stars!
