Kollywood actress SN Lakshmi, known best for her motherly roles, passed away last night in Chennai. Lakshmi suffered a fall a couple of weeks back, slipping uncontrollably. She was rushed to a leading hospital and treated for the injury. During her long haul in cinemas she went on to act with veterans MGR, Sivaji and Gemini Ganesan.
Aged 85, Lakshmi was admitted at a hospital in Chennai after sustaining serious injuries to her back. Doctors observed that she had suffered serious damage to her spinal cord after the disastrous slip. Nevertheless, she was holding on strong and did show good signs of recovery. But it was yesterday night that her condition got worse, breathing her last. Debuting in 1948, as a dancer in Chandraleka, a young Lakshmi went on to do more than 1000 movies, remaining unmarried for life. Her most memorable films include Kamarajan, Thevar Magan and as Kamal’s mother-in-law in Mahanadi. Her body has been kept for homage in her residence at Saligramam, with the final rites to be conducted at Sennalkudi, Virudunagar district tomorrow February 21st, 2012. Lakshmi’s brilliant performance as Urvasi’s mother in Michael Madana Kama Rajan (MMKR) was indeed a special one, still remembered by her fans .Actress Kushboo on hearing the sad news said, “Just heard about the sad demise of a great actor SN Lakshmiamma, have done many movies with her. MMKR being the best, may her soul rest in peace.”
