The last we heard about Madha Gaja Raja was its postponed release owing to the box office clash for Pongal , where it would have met suicidal competition with Director Thiru’s Pongal release and romantic bilingual – Samar with Vishal and Trisha Krishnan in the lead.

A directorial from Sundar C, who is presently basking the success of his last week release Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru at the box office tells us , “Although the project was completed way back in December, which is even before I even took off with my wife’s Avni Cinemax production – Theeya Velai Seiyanum Kumaru, the producers thought a postponed release was a better idea owing to the huge competition then. I am happy that Theeya Velai Seiyyanum Kumaru is continuing its establishment as a success story for the box office. In fact, it has turned out to be Siddharth’s biggest openings so far. Let us hope the same for Madha Gaja Raja too.”

Echoing similar views, the chief representative of Gemini Film Circuit who is funding Madha Gaja Raja mentioned “We are looking at July 26 to release this project across silver screens worldwide.”

Director Bharatbala’s much talked about release – Mariyaan, featuring Dhanush and Parvathi Menon as its lead pair has been at the mercy of censor board officials recently, as the board has been keeping its certification pending, citing unavailability of screenings at Prasad Labs and Four Frames.

As the movie nears its promised released,suffering a one week delay pushed to June 27th (Thursday), it was a tense situation at the Mariyaan camp, who are now rejoicing the verdict which appeared in the nick of time. Dhanush fans are relieved to hear that his romantic thriller has been rewarded a U/A certificate from the officials !

However, among the group producer Ascar Ravichandran was upset, as he could not manage to pull off a clean chit, with his project slotted in the ‘not entitled for a tax exemption’ category for a violent climax scene. Hoping to bag the coveted  U certification, director Bharathbala and producer Ravichandran will yet again approach the censor board after making some quick cuts to its final look.

Mariyaan is a tale which spans from Sudan to Kanyakumari, showcasing the fate of immigrant workers based in Sudan and their ill treatment at the hand of mercenaries. Isaipuyal A R Rahman has scored the music for Mariyaan’s sequences canned by cinematographer Marc Koninckx. Let us hope the movie releases without further delays.

As time passes by, director Vishnuvardhan continues his persistence to reveal the title of Thala Ajith’s 53rd project .In fact, even after Ajith’s 54th project from director Siva of Siruthai fame looking to officially announce their film title, there is still no hint of Vishnuvardhan changing his mind to let go off the mystery surrounding the title of his project !!!

Just days ago, we reported that Ajith’s 54 project has been christened – Vinayagam Brothers. Recently, sources close to the director revealed, the idea had stuck with Siva and the producer as Ajith’s character – Vinayak Mahadevan in yesteryear blockbuster – Mankatha was something that they could easily bank on to pull a mass audience.

Since then, fans have been relentlessly approaching Vishnuvardhan to confirm the name for Ajith’s 53rd project, which has already earned the title – Valai from ardent fans of the actor worldwide.On the contrary, reports emanating from the camp mention that this flick will release as Ucham Nee ( At the top)worldwide!!!

Yes, while many say it is just a rumor, others believe it is indeed true as the update was leaked from a member of the official crew who filmed the project.When we tried to contact Ajith’s representatives, we were informed that the unit has already left for Europe regarding the song sequences for Vinayagam Brothers, featuring Tamannah, Santhanam and others. Chevalier Sivaji ganesan Award to SRK

Indirani Narayan, an avid tamil cinema follower and fan of Nadigar Thilagam hits out the recently concluded Vijay Awards 2013, on having chosen Shahrukh Khan  as this years Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan Award recipient just for a publicity.

For the past few years Vijay awards have been the equivalent of “ Peoples choice awards” in the minds of Tamilians……though of late we’ve found them digressing from that and pandering to please the major stars. However, 2013 would be the year they will be remembered for committing their biggest faux pas.

Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan ….The name itself stirs unexplainable feelings of nostalgia, pride and love in the hearts of every Tamilian . He was a man who dedicated his life to Tamil cinema….a man etched in the hearts of every Tamil movie lover….a man who was never conferred the National Award but was without exception accepted by our entire nation as one of the greatest actors Indian cinema has ever seen.

I am a 33 year old woman…far outside the usual age demographic of people who love this great thespian’s movies. But, I grew up in a family where I learned to love old movies as much as new ones. My mom, grandma, all my assorted aunts & uncles are all huge fans of Sivaji Ganesan and even at a very young age I learned to appreciate his genius ,though it was considered overt histrionics by most of my peers.

Having said enough about the great actor, I feel that an award in his name needs to be bestowed very carefully after much deliberation and not as some cheap publicity stunt. I am not saying here that SRK was undeserving of praise (I’ve watched & loved quite a few of his movies)…..but simply that there are countless actors and actresses in Tamil cinema who have gone unrecognized and unappreciated for so long that it is heartbreaking.

Take for example one Mrs . S.N Lakshmi…people would remember her as the naughty patti of Oorvasi in the movie Michael Madana Kama Rajan. She was a woman who’d acted in hundreds of films…sharing screen space with actors spanning three generations. She pulled off both comedy and drama with equal aplomb .She was never married and her life was all about acting. She passed away last year at the age of 85, following a fall on the sets of a tv serial she was working in…..Yes, this woman literally acted till her last breath. It is such a tragedy that she was never recognized for her efforts while she was alive…but couldn’t we at least posthumously honor her?

There are countless such examples of great thespians who were never honoured during their lifetime….Mr.VK Ramaswamy, Mr. Balayya, Mr. Nagesh, Mrs. Gandhimathi…the list goes on.

Coming to actors still performing……

Aachi Manorama…there aren’t enough words in any language to describe the countless roles she’s performed with panache…she’s the only Tamil actress to hold a Guinness world record…. There has never been and nor will there ever be another actress who can hold a candle to her.

Mr. Delhi Ganesh, he’s probably remembered for his character performances but for me his greatest work was in comedy,in movies like Avvai Shanmugi & Michael Madana KR…he absolutely cracks me up every time he appears on screen…his timing sense is impeccable…

How about Veteran Mr VS Raghavan…he’s past 87 and still going strong in both silver & small screens.

Mr. Radha Ravi…haven’t we all watched him morph from character to character spanning different age groups in countless movies.
Again the list is endless….

So now , answer me Vijay TV ….couldn’t you find one worthy recipient in all of Tamil cinema to confer this honourable award….why did you have to go and bestow it on a man who made fun of South Indians in his last blockbuster(Ra One) & has released posters for his next(Chennai Express) showing Tamilians as dark skinned, overweight, moustache curling goondas?

Though veteran film-maker Bharathiraja didn’t speak highly of his disciple, the late actor-director Manivannan never missed out treating and talking high of his guru.

Director Manivannan who passed away three days back, during the last interview he had given to Radio City FM radio channel had spoken of his mentor in an emotion-filled voice

“My identity today as a filmmaker is only because of my mentor Bharathiraja Sir, whom I always admire; my life wouldn’t have been the same but for his guidance. He gave me the opportunity to write the dialogues in Nizhalgal and though the film wasn’t a success, he went against his friends’ terse remarks and gave me another offer to write the script of Alaigal Oivathillai which was a super-duper hit.

“I got awards from the Tamil Nadu Government from the hands of the legendary MGR, the then chief minister, for best script-writer and dialogue-writer. I have always treated Bharathiraja as my ‘second father’ irrespective of the political differences we have had. Whenever I think of him, invariably, my heart goes soft and I’m sure that the feeling of gratitude is what has made me what I am today.

“Times are moving fast….he married me off and now I have got my daughter married and making arrangements for my son’s marriage. Irrespective of whatever I achieve, I always take pride in the fact that I’m Bharathiraja’s aide (his voice breaks)….,” were Manivannan’s final comments about his mentor who later ironically criticized him in the harshest manner possible in a regional weekly.

Whenever a film-maker attempts a remake of a successful film, the first thing he would look for is that there shouldn’t be any objection/negative remark about his effort from the maker of the original version. If the remake version is appreciated and lauded by the original film-maker, there is nothing like it. Badri, the director of Thillu Mullu, is literally on ‘Cloud Nine’ after KB’s appreciation of his efforts.

K. Balachander, the winner of the prestigious ‘Dada Saheb Phalke award’ and many other awards, made superstar Rajinikanth, Madhavi and Kamal Haaasan (in a cameo) starrer Thillu Mullu in 1981. It was a remake of the Bollywood film Gol Maal which had Amol Palekar in the lead. Rajini’s Thillu Mullu turned out to be a super-duper hit and is now remade after a 32-year long interval.

Talking to newsmen after watching Badri’s remake, K Balachander  said “I should admit that the film is very different and the changes made (in the script) by the director are modern and enjoyable. The film has turned out to be a commercial hit to be enjoyed by all sections of the audiences. I’m happy about it and music is also nice. Siva has given a wonderful performance indeed.

“I must congratulate Badri for making it without it appearing in anyway close to the original version though the main theme is from it. I would love to personally wish all the technicians and artistes who have worked in the film,” said K Balachander . Trade circles have predicted that Thillu Mullu, which released last Friday, might end up as a  hit if the audiences’ interest is sustained for two more weeks.

Saranya debuted in a supporting role along with the film’s heroine Sandhya in Kaadhal directed by Balaji Sakthivel in 2004. The film was not only critically acclaimed but also turned out to be a commercial success. Saranya, however couldn’t get any noticeable film for the next few years except for S. P. Jananathan’s Peranmai (2008) where she played one of the five heroines.

Putting on oodles of flesh around her once-slim waist, Saranya now plays the lead role in an upcoming film titled as Retta Vaalu directed by Desika. Usually, actress don’t reveal the manner in which they bag a particular film offer but Saranya was frank enough to spill the beans about it at the recent press-meet held in connection with the launch of Retta Vaalu in the city.

Saranya said that it was music director Selvaganesh who recommended her name to director. “But for Selvaganesh’s efforts, I wouldn’t have bagged the film,” she said. She is paired opposite Akhil of Kalloori and Valmiki fame. Desika, who had titled the film as Vaalu, was advised by the Producers’ Council to change the title as Simbu was also making a film with the same title and hence Retta Vaalu got its final title.

Incidentally enough, both Akhil and Saranya were introduced in films by Balaji Sakthivel. “Our director (Balaji) must be feeling proud that both of his finds are pairing up opposite each other,” noted Saranya. “I’m sure Balaji Sir would feel happy about it,” she said and added that she would be happy if she is addressed as Saranya Nag and not as Saranya Nakku (meaning ‘tongue’ in Tamil).

Desika assured that the script of Retta Vaalu, which was to have Vijay Sethupathi in the lead, would appeal to all sections of the audiences.

It is well know that comic superstar Santhanam is a busy man, with every other director wanting a slice of his tickling antics to spice up the box office revenues without fail. However, despite quoting a huge fee for his performances, apart from being just featured as just a sidekick  in his projects, our Santa makes sure his role is well placed midst the leading cast in his movies.

Sensing the same, director Srinath came forth and booked Santhanam for a leading spot recently. Just like in Arai En 305il Kadavul, where he was the front man, the unit making the Tamil remake of SS Rajamouli’s Telugu blockbuster Maryada Ramanna, tentatively titled Vallavanuku Pullum Aayudham in Tamil have certain issues to settle before they start shooting. Funded by PVP Cinemas its producer is furious as the shoots for the same were supposed to begin by now.

A major cause behind its delay is our Santa’s honest opinion, disregarding the choice of his lead actress time and again. In fact, director Srinath is clueless on his three female ladies, who are yet to be decided upon.

Not revealing the full picture Srinath preferred to address the press as he said -” Santhanam will be playing Sunil in this project. But as we have not yet been able to find suitable heroines for the role there has been an unexpected delay in the project. Once, we decide who is doing the lead we are sure to announce to our crew and start the shoot as soon as possible.”

Suza Kumar is living her dream. This petite beauty all of 20, has been passionate for movies since a young age. Post her schooling at SBOA school in Chennai, she followed up with a diploma in Cinematography from the esteemed New York Film Academy in US, later taking up a filmmaking course at SAE, Singapore. After a brief stint in television commercials, Suza got her first break in Ethir Neechal and now has Thala Ajith’s project alongside Tamannaah and Vidharth in supporting roles ! ! !

Reports mention that Suza who had her debut venture in Sivakarthikeyan’s Ethirneechal (a production from Dhanush K Raja) has a key role in Ajith’s upcoming venture from director ‘Siruthai’ Siva, tentatively titled Vinayagam Brothers.

Suza plays Vidharth’s love interest and confirming the same she recently wrote on her micro blog “Signed my next project …directed by siruthai siva. I am pairing up with Mynaa hero Vidharth !!! and it is a Thala Ajith Movie … <3”

On completing her initial portions with Ajith, Suza enthuses, “As soon as I heard it’s an Ajth film I wanted to do it.He is one of the sweetest and humblest persons I have ever met.I still can’t get over the fact that I got an opportunity to talk to him. He blessed me and was very encouraging throughout the shoots.”

Bharathiraja’s much awaited release – Annakodiyum Kodiveeranum which was later re-titled as just Annakodi has been under the consideration of censor board officials since the last week.Featuring Karthika Nair cast in a not so glamorous role,she would be seen spending most of her time rearing her sheep and fetching water for her family.Newbie Lakshmanan will assist her, as according to the director he suited the roles much more than R Parthiban and Ameer who could not pass the screening test with much conviction !!!

Annakodi’s recently released trailer gave the audience was one of a kind, as   ‘the actor’s director’ – Bharathiraja, was seen illustrating the shoot sequences to performers.Since then, an announcement regarding its silver screen release has been expected. Now that its release date is tentatively scheduled for July the censor board came forth to clear the content by certifying it with a U/A certificate !!!

It’s featured composer on board GV Prakash, has chipped in with 6 tunes reflecting the rural milieu and complementing the rustic visuals. Funded by Bharathiraja’s home banner Manoj Productions an official confirmation on its release is also expected soon.
