With almost nil publicity, actor Jayaram has had another release in Tamil yesterday with ‘Sabash Sariyana Potti’ (SSP).(Click here for Sabash Sariyana Potti Movie Stills) The actor, quite popular in Mollywood where he has done many commercial and critically acclaimed films, does dabble in Tamil films from time to time and has tasted reasonable success in Kollywood too.
Jayaram has acted in quite a few Tamil films as solo-hero in the nineties but could taste success only with multi-starrer projects. His solo projects like ‘Gokulam’ (opposite Banupriya) and ‘Priyanka’ (opposite Revathy) were critically appreciated but failed to click at the box-office. He had a terrific on-screen equation with Kamal Haasan, with whom he starred in successive hit films in ‘Thenaali’ and ‘Panchathanthiram’.
From playing lead roles, he switched to playing the ‘villain’ in films like ‘Dhaam Dhoom’ and ‘Saroja’ and even acted in insignificant roles in a few films in the pat few years in Tamil. Jayaram again came back to comedy, considered as his forte, and played a small role in Ajith’s ‘Aegan.’
Out of the blue, his ‘SSP’ has just been released in Tamil. The film also marks the debut directorial venture of Venu Arvind, a popular actor from small screen who acted in quite a few films as well. Arvind’s full-length comedy film, made with lots of care and planning, has Jayaram playing a solo hero. Jayaram must be hoping against hope that the film clicks in a big way.
Incidentally, Jayaram plays a superstar in this film with a huge fan base which ultimately puts him in a spot of bother.
