S.Rangarajan, who’s pen name Sujatha, was one of the most popular writers in Tamil literature, and author of many novels, short stories, poems and plays. He was associated with many Tamil films like Kamal Haasan’s ‘Vikram’, dialogue writer to Mani Ratnam’s ‘Roja’, the more recent Rajinikanth starrer ‘Sivaji’ and many more. His literary works received a lot of appreciation. He was working on Shankar’s ‘Endhiran’ (based on his novels ‘En Iniya Iyanthra'(My dear Robot) and ‘Jeano’) before he died on February 27, 2008.

On his second death anniversary, a meet was organized to announce the Sujatha awards, at The New Woodlands hotel in Chennai on February 27th 2010

Those present on the occasion were Director Shankar, Vasanth, Rajeev Menon, actor Parthiban, A.Natarajan, Madan, Indira Parthasarathy, Gnanakoothan and Manushyaputhran.. The event was organized by ‘Uyirmmai Padhipagam’ and Sujatha trust.

The Sujatha awards will be presented annually in categories like short stories, poetry, collection of articles, and novels. Special awards for Best Little Magazine of the Year and Best Website of the year will also be given. The award would carry Rs.10,000 and a citation.
