The movie Ek Deewana Tha had its grand audio launch held at Lawns of Taj Khema, the eastern gate of Taj Mahal some time back. Director Gautham Menon and his Ek Deewana Tha composer AR Rahman put up a wonderful show with a group of young singers entertaining the audience to some tingling music.
After the big launch fans had to wait for the Ek Deewana Tha (EDT) album to hit music stands officially, on the date of Rahman’s birthday January 6th.The CD’s were pocketed within hours of release, being a delightful birthday present for the composer. The track Hosanna from the EDT album climbed high on the Bollywood radio charts, sitting at a comfortable No.3. But now it’s the same song that has come under the hammer for using the word Hosanna. The song somehow failed to please the ears of the Catholic-Christian Secular Forum (CSF) who have come down heavily, seeking public apologies from composer AR Rahman, promoters Fox Star Studio and Sony Music. The CSF sent out a warning saying that the song needs to be scrapped before the release and if no action was taken they were willing to go on protest publicly. CSF general secretary Joseph Dias snapped at the EDT makers saying, “Hosanna is a prayer in the Bible and sacred to both Jews and Christians, referring to God or Jesus Christ, with strong reverential and religious connotations. We don’t even want to get into the lyrics or the vulgar picturisation of the song which is objectionable”
While things went smooth for Gautham during the Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa and Ye Maaya Chesave releases, the Bollywood remake in Ek Deewana Tha seems to hold some fresh challenges.
