‘Chiyaan’ Vikram has been selected as the Youth Envoy for “UN Habitat”, a human settlement programme conceived by the United Nations’ Organization (UNO). Vikram, who is part of the Asian contingent, is presently attending the 23rd Governing Council meet of UN Habitat in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi from 11-15 April 2011.
Speaking from Nairobi, Vikram opined that he felt very honoured to be part of the prestigious UN body which aims to eradicate poverty and to provide sustainable urban development besides improved livelihoods for the poor.
Vikram, who holds that it is cinema which has given him so much money, name and fame, wants to do whatever he can to the people by helping in carrying forward the goals and mandates of UN Habitat. For starters, Vikram is already actively involved in many social activities. He is also the brand ambassador of Sanjeevini Trust, a charitable organization and the ‘Goodwill Ambassador’ of Vidya Sudha, a school especially meant for children with special needs.
Vikram also runs ‘The Vikram Foundation’ that aids the disabled and under privileged groups of the society. He is also the founder of ‘Kasi Eye Camp’ which caters to the needs of the under-privileged sector vis-à-vis their free eye surgeries.
