Even as the much-hyped Mani Ratnam‘s Raavanan/Raavan/Villain starring Vikram and Abishek in the lead roles opened to mixed reviews, Many sources find out that Vikram emerged as the real winner among the two but Amitabh Bachchan interprets his son Abhishek’s performance in a different way.
Amitabh Bachchan has expressed unhappiness over the films editing, which, according to him, ruined Abhishek’s performance.
“It’s sad, in the edit you only see the after-effect of that thinking process, hence inconsistent. In the edit, all the visual heads got cut and you see a confused Beera expression and wonder why?” Amitabh wrote on a microblogging site.
“Lot of the merited film edited out, causing inconsistent performance and narrative. Abhishek’s erratic behaviour was due to symbolic 10 heads visually appearing and each giving him different attitudes to adopt for a situation, he would then finally shake them off and decide”, Amitabh said.
But Mani Feels different “My movie is about a mighty man whose behaviour is due to different attitudes that strike his mind to adopt for a situation. It’s like 10 different persons sitting inside one man. Hence the title”, the ace filmmaker clarified.
Meanwhile, Bollywood veteran Mahesh Bhatt came to the support of Amitabh Bachchan, who expressed unhappiness over the editing of the film’s Hindi version ‘Raavan’ which has his son Abhishek Bachchan in the lead.
“A dad is a dad is a dad. Who else would come out but a father to protect his son from fires of perceived failure?” the filmmaker said. In the meantime, amidst reports that the movie has bombed at the box office, distributor Reliance Big Pictures has claimed that the film has grossed Rs 53 crore worldwide with in three days of its release.
Fortunately key players of the film Vikram and cinematographer for both the versions Santosh Sivan have come to the defense of director Mani Ratnam.
While Santosh Sivan said the director’s prerogative cannot be questioned by anyone as he is the Master of the ship, Vikram said the audience was the ultimate judge but all is done for the well scoring of movie.
And when he appeared online for the second time during the day, Amitabh accused the media of misinterpreting his statement as an affront to the films director Mani Ratnam. There has and shall always be respect and dignity for him media playing with words. Mani is one of our finest directors… he should never stop making films.
