The auspicious day of Vijayadasami is observed the world over by Hindus. On this day, new businesses, projects, shops, school admissions and many other new schemes are launched. Kollywood, which has always remained sentimental, would witness the theatrical release of as many as five films tomorrow on the eve of Vijayadasami today.
Vellore Maavattam, starring Nandha and Poorna in lead roles, is the first of the lot and is looked at with some anticipation due to its producer Kalpathi S. Agoram. Usually, Tamil films have been having Madurai, Tuticorin or Tanjore districts as the backdrop of their stories and those films invariably enjoy the patronage of people in northern districts of the State.
Deviating from the pack, Vellore Maavattam has Vellore as its backdrop and it has created a strange expectation among the audience who look forward to hearing the dialect, which is typical to Vellore and which hasn’t been shown earlier. Srikanth-Sonia Aggarwal starrer Sathurangam, which was completed 5 years back and was lying in cold storage for many reasons, is another film which releases tomorrow.
Ra Ra starring Udhaya in the lead is another film which has generated waves thanks to a strange title. Varnam starring Azhagi Monika in the lead, which deals with caste-based issues and discriminations, is another film which releases tomorrow and which seeks to establish a society sans casteist divisions.
