Ilayathalapathy Vijay has told the media that his latest release Nanban, directed by Shankar and co-starring Jiiva, Srikanth, and Ileana, has fulfilled his own long-standing desire to look ‘differently’ on-screen. The film, which released a couple of weeks ago on Pongal eve, is said to be doing well at all the centres all over the State.
The New Year has taken off well for Vijay, who has scored a hat-trick of success with Nanban, the other two being last year’s Kaavalan and Velayudham. He spoke to news-persons recently and shared many things. “I was highly impressed by the Bollywood film 3 Idiots and wanted to star in its remake and fortunately, I had a director in Shankar to do the remake. I’m happy to hear that the film has been doing well in theatres.
“Usually, I don’t like to ‘impose’ punch-dialogues in my films. At the same time, I’d utter those dialogues if I felt that these dialogues are needed for a particular sequence. The usual heroism and action-packed sequences, which are regular features of my films, are missing in Nanban as I have played a very different character and I’d love to add that I liked myself on-screen when I saw the final version of the film.

“My father wanted me to pursue medicine and become a doctor but I had other ideas. I entered the industry and here I am. I’d like to advice the parents to let their children choose their own profession instead of imposing their will and aspirations on them,” said Vijay.
