Now crowned with the National award for ‘best actress’, actress Vidya Balan has revealed that she had been expecting the honour for the past two or three years. “I had been actually waiting for this honour for the past couple of years for my performances in films like Ishquiya and Paa. However, I’m mighty surprised and happy that I got it for my role in The Dirty Picture,” says Vidya.
Vidya has made it to the list of frontline actresses in Bollywood which is dominated by the Punjabis and Bengalis by and large. That she hails from Kerala was always a ‘minus point’ for her as her diction and pronunciation were always open to criticisms. However, braving all these, the talented Vidya has now silenced her critics by bagging the national award for best actress for playing the role of Kollywood’s late ‘item girl’ Silk Smitha.
“Thanks to Silk Smitha, I have got it now,” says a smiling Vidya, who had been away in Dubai when the awards were announced yesterday. There were rumours that she would win the coveted award for the film. Vidya, who had been awaiting an award for the past two years and kept her phone ‘free’ and got disappointed, didn’t do so this time but was mightily surprised when the news was broken to her.
“I’m extremely happy and delighted about the award. Awards are the incentive each artiste looks forward to,” says Vidya, who was also in the reckoning to play Rajini’s heroine in his upcoming film Kochadaiyaan.
