National award-winning director-producer Veterimaaran’s upcoming film Visaranai has won the coveted award at the just-concluded Venice International Film Festival.
It is for the first time in the 72-year old history of the Festival that a Tamil film has won an award. Starring ‘Attakathi’ Dinesh, Samuthirakani, ‘Kayal’ Anandhi, Saravana Subbaiah, Kishore and Murugadoss in lead roles, Visaranai was screened for the jury at the Venice Film Festival last week. It has won the award in the ‘human rights’ category.
By winning the award, Visaranai has created a record as it also becomes the first-ever Indian film to have been honoured with an award at the Venice Festival. G.V. Prakash Kumar has scored the music of the film whihch has been produced jointly by Dhanush and Vetrimaaran.
Lyca Mobiles, which recently acquired the release and distribution rights of the film, is to release the film on 24th September in theatres. Visaranai crew is over the moon at winning the coveted award.
