Veteran director K. Balachander is said to have entered the fray to attempt to bring about ‘ceasefire’ among the FEFSI and the film producers. The raging issue of increase of wages for film employees and workers has almost split the Tamil Film Producers’ Council (TFPC) and FEFSI besides sowing deeds of misunderstanding between these bodies.
Balachander, who is widely respected and listened to by everyone in the film industry, is said to have started all-out efforts to bring an end to the ugly spat between the two leading bodies in Kollywood. The ‘misunderstanding’ between these two leading bodies has now snowballed into a big issue which threatens to divide the entire film industry into two factions.
Observers point out that the recent ‘stalling’ of the shoot of Karthi-starrer Alex Pandian by FEFSI workers has taken the issue to a point of ‘no return’. It is also pointed out that the Council’s recent announcement of steps to be taken to create a new Employees’ Union is intended to divide FEFSI.
Balachander is said to have taken the ‘peacemaker’ initiative on his own. As a first step, he has asked the Council to first postpone forming a new body. It may be recalled that Balachander had headed FEFSI many years back. Heeding to the veteran’s request, the Council has told him that it was ready to act as per his request.
Let’s hope Balachander succeeds in his peace initiatives!
