The almost-forgotten ace comedian Vadivelu has been cooling his heels waiting for the right opportunity (and the right offer too) to make his ‘comeback’ in Kollywood. Not so long ago, Vadivelu was ruling the roost in Kollywood as the ‘No.1’ comedian but found himself unwanted after the results of the State Assembly elections were out in May last year. DMK, for which Vadivelu campaigned, suffered a historical rout in the elections.
The change of guard meant that Vadivelu, who campaigned for the alliance opposite Amma, wouldn’t find favour with producers and directors. Vadivelu, who campaigned for DMK mainly to oppose actor Vijaykanth who was part of the AIADMK alliance at that time, is in an unenviable position now. Some producers have even claimed that they have received ‘anonymous’ threatening calls not to sign up Vadivelu for their films.
Vadivelu, though, is putting up a brave face saying that he is on a ‘self-imposed hiatus’ from films. In the face of the recent split between AIADMK and Vijayakanth, it was assumed that Vadivelu’s position would revert back to what it was more than an year ago. When queried whether he has received any offers, Vadivelu said that he was in Madurai to take care of his ailing mother.
“I’m sure my mother would be alright very soon; nothing engages my attention these days. As an actor, I have a responsibility to make people happy and would continue to do it till my last breath. For anything to happen, it’s imperative that one’s stars should be in the right position and he should be a lucky person.
“The present phase of my life is surely not progressing the way I want it to be; still, I have no regrets. My profession is to act and I am concentrating wholly on that. Soon, I’d make an announcement about my next film in which I might play the lead role; I can’t say anything more for the time being,” said Vadivelu. He better remember what happened to Indiralogathil Naa Azhagappan in which he played the lead role!
