Actress Iniya has made a good enough impression among producers and directors with her performance in the just-released film Vaagai Sooda Vaa (VSV). The script of the film, directed by Sargunam and starring Vimal in the lead, was set in the backdrop of the seventies and had the protagonist reaching out (despite stiff opposition from the locals) to the village folks to educate them and their children.
Iniya, whose actual name was Shruthi, had won ‘Miss Trivandrum’ and ‘Miss Kerala’ titles at beauty pageants. She debuted in the Cheran-starrer Yudhdham Sei with her original name but saw the film faring below par at the box-office and then changed her name to Iniya. It is said that she was ‘guided’ in the name-change operation by some good-minded Kollywood scribes.
Fresh from the success of VSV, where she played a girl running a tea-shop in a remote village sans many basic amenities, Iniya has signed up ace director Bharathiraja’s next film titled Annakodiyum Kodiveeranum to play the lead role opposite Parthiban. If that’s not enough for a relative newcomer, she has also bagged the role of heroine opposite Arulnidhi in his upcoming film Maunaguru.
She is happy to be playing her age in the urban flick Maunaguru where she plays a medical college student. The film is directed by debutant Sarath.
