Debutant director Seenu Ramasamy surprised many by bagging the coveted award of best ‘regional film’ at the national awards for films announced early this year for the film Tenmerku Paruvakkaatru. The film, which released late last year, was an emotional film set in a rural backdrop and earned Seenu accolades from the print and television media besides huge appreciation from the movie-goers.
Lyricist Vairamuthu even described Seenu Ramasamy as the next ‘Bharathiraaja’ of Tamil films for the way the debutant director had handled the rural subject in his very first outing. Buoyed by the national award, Ramasamy has moved ahead to make his next film which is likely to star upcoming hero Vimal in the lead. Deviating from his usual sarcastic roles, Vimal had given a good account of himself as a serious actor in his latest film Vaagai Sooda Vaa which has been directed by Sargunam (of Kalavaani fame).
Speaking about his latest venture, Seenu says “I narrated a script to Udhayanidhi which he liked and immediately assured me that he’d produce the film. The coastal belt of Tamil Nadu would form the backdrop of this particular film and would focus on the fishermen and their lives. Vimal plays the hero in the film; the heroine, other actors and technicians haven’t yet been finalized as yet.
“Lyricist Vairamuthu and music director Ragunandan, who worked with me in Tenmerku Paruvakkaatru, would also be working in my next movie. I’m also planning to offer chances to work in many spheres of film-making to many of my struggling yet talented friends,” says Seenu.
