Tamil films, in recent times, appear to be suffering from dearth of titles and stories. Remakes of many hit films have been attempted and quite a good number of them are in the pipeline. As if it’s not an enough proof of the lack of imagination of our script-writers, even titles are becoming increasingly ‘copied’ as if Tamil language has been hit by an acute shortage of words!
Vijay’s upcoming film Thuppakki is already facing problems from the producer of another film titled Kalla Thuppakki who has filed a case with the Court accusing producers of Vijay’s film of ‘stealing’ his title. Even ast the matter is still sub-judice, Simbu’s upcoming film Vaalu now faces a similar kind of problem.
It now turns out that a production house named Pranav Productions is already in the process of producing Vaalu which has Akhil (remember him in the Tamannaah-starrer Kalloori?) and Saranya in lead roles. Pranav Productions has reportedly got the title of their film formally registered with the Tamil Film Producers’ Council (TFPC), the governing body of film producers in Kollywood.
Even as the Akhil-starrer Vaalu, which is directed by Deivasigamani (a former aide of Thambi Ramaiah) has been progressing briskly in Chennai and its surroundings, the makers of the film have complained against Nic Arts, producers of Simbu’s Vaalu of attempting to hijack the title of Vaalu from them.
It remains to be seen as to who would ultimately get the title. The increasing ‘title’ clashes signify one thing for sure: the members of the public are getting an impression that the TFPC is not performing its duties in a proper manner.
