Popular dance choreographer Tara has filed a case with the Family Court in Chennai seeking 5 crore in cash at once and a monthly maintenance charge of Rs.75,000 from another popular choreographer Sundaram (father of Prabhudeva & Raju Sundaram) for marrying her more than four decades back and ditching her after she gave birth to his son.
62-year old Tara was counseled by the Legal Services Authority to file a case with the Family Court after repeated summons to Sundaram to appear before it for counseling evoked no response. In her petition, Tara has said, “I live in Parthasathypuram off North Usman Road in T. Nagar, Chennai. I have been working under Sundaram as assistance dance choreographer from the sixties.
“We fell in love with each other started living together from 1964 and married as per Hindu rituals on 25.01.1970. I gave birth to a son, Naeem Ansar, on 27.7.1971. Sundaram had asked me not to divulge anything about me or my son to the public as he was hugely ‘popular’ in Kollywood. I did so and our marriage was held in a secretive manner. After the birth of Naeem, Sundaram stopped coming to my house.
“I then started earning on my own as choreographer from 1975; due to my son’s ill-health, I couldn’t continue his studies beyond Class VIII. My income started dwindling after 1995 and I had to take huge sums of loan from the Bank and friends and relatives. Sundaram, who ought to protect and finance me, got married and had three sons through that marriage. He owns vast property in Mysore and farm-houses and estates in Tamil Nadu worth more than 100 crore earned through my assistance.
“I, therefore, request the Court to pass orders so that Sundaram pays me 5 crore and then Rs.75000 as monthly maintenance fee,” the petition ended thus. The case comes up for hearing soon.
